New Year, New Direction!

Well I was giving the opportunity to wheel one of the cars that I have had my eye on since June of last year when there were only CAD drawings of it.

It is the Serpent Cobra Be, which is an electric 1/8 scale buggy. I thought to myself when I first saw the drawings "that's the way it should be done". While I was wheeling this beast I couldn't hold back the urge to just push it more and more each lap. This car is so balanced that it almost drives itself. It was just point and shoot. The car turned so well you would think that it was on rails. Uhh ohh! Here we go again ;-)

New Parts Ordered!!!!

Well I haven't put the 4x4 on the track yet and I have already been advised to buy an upgrade part.  So I've just ordered a set of sway bars (front & rear).  From what I've read, they are a must in order to make this beast race worthy.  We'll see!  Also while I was at it, Kyosho just released Big Bore shocks for the RT5/SCR.  So I went on and ordered some.  As far as springs go (since the shocks doesn't come with any at all) I decided to go with the super hard up front and med hard on the rear per the advice of a fellow racer named Rodney B.

Almost done!!!

The building party is almost over on this one.  One thing I can say about this kit so far is that "Its solid as a tank".  Hopefully it stays that way (for the most part anyways).  Mobile pics........

New Build Underway!!!!!!

Well, I'm getting ready to start my 2011-2012 racing season.  Due to a health issue with my son, i might be able to start a little earlier this year.  I've decided to jump into the 4x4 SC class this year.  After much debate and careful thoughts.  I've decided to go with the Associated SC10 4x4.  So far the build is going well.  I'm not at all pleased with the quality of the shocks, but that might be because I'm a little spoiled to the quality of the Tamiya and Kyosho shocks I've been building lately.  Stay tuned..........

Shakin' off the rust!

Well after struggling all day at the SCT Shootout, I decided to head back out to the track today for some more track time.  CRCRC runs a weekly sunday electric racing program.  The day started off well.  I TQ'd (top qualifier) the first round in the Mod 2wd SCT class with a 15/5:16.  That's better than I did all day at the shootout.  I must have choaked under pressure.  My 2wd Mod ST truck took some attention to get right.  I finally got it feeling good in the 3rd round of qualifying.  By the time that qualifying was over, I had the SCT 2nd in the A main and the ST 4th in the A main.  I ended up winning the SCT race and placing a close 3rd in the ST race.  You can check the results at the bottom of the blog.

My Return to Racing

Well, it's been about two and a half months since I've done any offroad racing.  CRCRC decided to put on an all SCT(short course truck) race today.  I thought it was a perfect opportunity for me to get back into the groove.  "Not So Much!"  How should I start to explain my (not so wonderful) day?  Well it started off pretty good.  I didn't have any issues at all during practice.  The program would run 3 qualifiers and a main. The first qualifier I bent the front left wheel axel.  Of course I didn't have a spare.  But to the rescue a fellow racer lent me one that he had just replaced on his truck.  It wasn't perfect, but it was better than mine.  After the first qualifier ti was apparent that it was going to take a good 15 lap run to make the A Main.  In my first qualifier I ran a 14/5:11.  After making some changes to the truck that I thought felt good, the second and third qualifiers weren't really any better.  I ran a 14/5:06 in the second qualifier and a 14/5:09 in the third.  That landed me 5th in the B Main.  The main started and ended much like the qualifiers.  I started 5th and ended 5th.  I managed to make it up to 3rd briefly before a weird landed after the triple landed me upside down for about six seconds.  I fell all the way back to 7th because of that.  After working my way back up to 4th, I tried to slip underneath someone in a turn and ended up catching a tube.  So it was 5th that I would end up.  I'M RUSTY!!!!  LOL  :-)
